REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEL AVIV - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, in a joint statement, announced that they had targeted a senior commander of the Al-Qassam Brigade, Izzuddin Al-Haddad, in an airstrike that hit an apartment in the Rimal area of Gaza City.

In the statement, which was reported by Aljazeera on Saturday (16/5/2026), it was stated that the operation was carried out under the direct orders of Netanyahu and Katz, as part of Israel’s ongoing military offensive in the Gaza Strip.

It was also mentioned that Al-Haddad was one of the key military figures in the Hamas movement.

The statement added that the Israeli military, together with the Shin Bet (Israel’s internal security agency), continues to implement what they call a policy of early threat prevention.

They affirmed that the military operation against those considered responsible for the 7 October attacks would continue.

Netanyahu and Katz also affirmed that Israel would continue its military operation with strength and determination, while also conveying the message that the pursuit of those accused of involvement in the attacks would continue.

Israeli media reported that the Israeli military targeted an apartment and a car in the Rimal area of Gaza City, in an operation aimed at killing Izzuddin Al-Haddad.

The media speculated that the car, which was also bombed, was used to evacuate Al-Haddad from the location of the targeted apartment.
