Breaking News! Muara Enim Regent Edison Caught in KPK Sting Operation
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested the Regent of Muara Enim, Edison, in its twelfth sting operation (OTT) of 2026 in South Sumatra. “It is true,” confirmed KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto to journalists in Jakarta on Monday, 8 June 2026.
On a separate occasion, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that the anti-corruption agency apprehended nine other individuals during the same operation. “The team secured ten people across the Jakarta and South Sumatra regions. Five individuals are from the Muara Enim Regency Government, including the regent, while the other five are from the private sector,” said Budi.
Under the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those detained in the sting operation.
Earlier this year, the KPK conducted its first sting operation of 2026, arresting eight people between 9–10 January 2026 regarding alleged bribery in tax audits at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Office under the Directorate General of Taxes, Ministry of Finance, for the 2021–2026 period.
The second operation, on 19 January 2026, led to the arrest of the Mayor of Madiun, Maidi. On 20 January 2006, the agency named Maidi a suspect in an extortion case involving project kickbacks, CSR funds, and other forms of gratification within the Madiun City Government, East Java.
A third operation on 19 January 2026 resulted in the arrest of the Regent of Pati, Sudewo. On 20 January 2026, the KPK identified Sudewo as a suspect in an extortion scheme related to the appointment of village officials in the Pati Regency, Central Java.
The fourth operation occurred on 4 February 2026, involving the Banjarmasin Medium Tax Office in South Kalimantan, concerning tax restitution processes.
On the same day, the fifth operation was revealed, involving the importation of counterfeit goods. Among those arrested was Rizal, the former Director of Enforcement and Investigation at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, Ministry of Finance, who currently serves as the Head of the West Sumatra Regional Customs Office.
The sixth operation was uncovered on 5 February 2026, concerning alleged corruption in the management of a 6,500-square-metre land dispute at the Depok District Court, West Java. The KPK named the Chairman of the Depok District Court, I Wayan Eka Mariarta, the Vice Chairman, Bambang Setyawan, and the President Director of PT Karabha Digdaya—a subsidiary of the Ministry of Finance—as suspects.
