Breaking News! Jakarta Composite Index Suddenly Drops 1%, Here Are the Causes
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) came under pressure again during trading on Thursday (10/09/2026). By 14:25 WIB, the IHSG had plummeted 1%, or 66.50 points, to the level of 6,611.70.
After initially strengthening and breaking through the 6,700 level at the start of trading, the index reversed direction. The index even touched a low of 6,608.21, while its peak reached 6,712.50.
Pressure on the IHSG deepened entering the second session alongside the weakening of the majority of large-cap stocks. Notable declines were recorded in BBCA (-1.15%), BBRI (-2.92%), BYAN (-3.99%), and AMMN (-1.83%).
Overall, 495 stocks weakened, while only 172 stocks gained. The remaining 296 stocks remained stagnant.
Furthermore, one of the primary causes of market pressure stemmed from external sentiment. The IHSG weakened amidst a surge in Brent crude oil prices, which breached US$101 per barrel. The rise in oil prices was triggered by the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, reviving concerns regarding global inflation.
Additionally, the 10-year US Treasury yield remains at a high level, around 4.86%, after previously reaching its highest level since November 2023.
Pressure also came from selling activities by foreign investors. Based on data from Stockbit Sekuritas up to the first session, foreign buying was recorded at Rp2.71 trillion, but foreign selling reached Rp4.02 trillion. As a result, net foreign selling reached Rp1.31 trillion.
Large-cap banking stocks were the primary targets of foreign selling. BBCA recorded net foreign selling of Rp276.20 billion, followed by BBRI at Rp116.19 billion and BMRI at Rp17.14 billion. AMMN stock also recorded foreign net selling of Rp36.17 billion.
Sectorally, the deepest pressure occurred in the healthcare sector, which fell by 1.51%. The financial sector also weakened by 0.65%, followed by industrials at 0.27% and technology at 0.01%.
