Breaking News: Israel Attacks Iran, Explosions Heard
Iranian state television reported attacks occurring across the country, with explosions heard in three different cities on Monday morning (8/6/2026). “Several explosions were heard in Tehran, Tabriz, and Isfahan,” the state broadcaster wrote on Telegram, as reported by AFP.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military stated that its air force had struck targets in western and central Iran. The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement via Telegram: “A short time ago, the Israeli Air Force attacked military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran.”
This follows a period of heightened tension after Iran launched a barrage of missiles towards Israeli territory on Sunday. Reports of the Iranian missile strikes emerged after the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, issued a harsh statement accusing allies of undermining the peace commitments previously agreed upon by both parties.
Citing CNBC International, Ghalibaf stated via a post on the social media platform X that the naval blockade by the United States, alongside violations of agreements related to Lebanon, served as the reason for the collapse of the agreed ceasefire. The Iranian Parliament Speaker also issued a warning regarding the status of foreign military assets in the Middle East due to ongoing military activities in Lebanon and the continuous US naval blockade.
“Military activities in Lebanon and the ongoing US blockade make American bases and assets, as well as regimes in the region, legitimate targets,” Ghalibaf stated, according to the translation of his post on X.
