BREAKING NEWS: Iran Imposes Total Closure of the Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed by Iran on Thursday (11/6/2026), including to commercial vessels, after the United States launched fresh attacks. The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stressed that all ships attempting to cross would be targeted. “The United States’ claim that ships are traversing the Strait of Hormuz is false,” read a statement from Khatam al-Anbiya, as quoted by The Cradle.
The Iranian side stated that the latest blockade covers oil tankers and commercial ships. Any vessel attempting to cross will become a target.
The Strait of Hormuz was previously open to merchant ships distributing around 20 percent of the world’s oil and gas needs. The strait’s closure was carried out by Iran in response to the US-Israel attacks last February.
The closure of the strait has triggered an energy crisis in various countries. The rising price of Pertamax fuel in Indonesia is one of the direct impacts of this crisis.
Since a temporary ceasefire was agreed between the US and Iran last April, the Strait of Hormuz has gradually reopened, although not as freely as before. The recent escalation appears likely to choke off oil and gas distribution flows in the strait once again.
The Iranian Mehr news agency also reported that heavy clashes and gunfire have erupted in the Strait of Hormuz between US forces and IRGC naval units. The IRGC also stated that its air defence systems fired missiles at F-16 aircraft that violated “the Gulf’s airspace”, forcing them to retreat.
Mehr added that US forces targeted seven coastal points in Wednesday night’s attacks. Strikes have been reported in various areas including Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Qeshm and Hengam Island.
Meanwhile, air defence systems were activated in western Tehran. Iranian media also reported explosions in several Iranian regions in Sirik and Minab, Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and Gorgan.
Explosions were also heard in the city of Fars in Iran’s south-western Fars province, caused by air defence systems activated outside the city.
