Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia’s economy recorded a growth of 5.61% year-on-year (yoy) in the first quarter of 2026. This growth rate is higher than the 5.39% in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the 4.87% yoy in the first quarter of 2025. “Indonesia’s economic growth is 5.61% in the first quarter of 2026,” said BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti during a press conference at the BPS headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Based on the consensus gathered by CNBC Indonesia from 12 institutions, Indonesia’s economic growth was projected to reach 5.40% year-on-year (yoy). However, on a quarterly basis, the economy was expected to contract by 1.0% compared to the previous quarter (quarter-to-quarter/qtq). This period coincided with Eid al-Fitr. The government and companies distributed Holiday Allowance (THR), which boosted public purchasing power. This is evident in the continued growth of household consumption, particularly in restaurants and hotels. Online transaction growth from e-retail and marketplaces also increased. The value of consumer goods imports rose by 6.12% yoy.
