Breaking News! IHSG Soars 2%, Bank Stocks Celebrate
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — The Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) surged rapidly at the start of trading on Wednesday (1/4/2026), with gains exceeding 2%.
According to trading data, the IHSG was recorded at the level of 7,194.46, up 146.24 points or 2.07% at around 09:30 WIB. This increase indicates a fairly solid market sentiment since the opening of trading.
In detail, the majority of stocks were in the green zone with 493 stocks strengthening, 152 weakening, and 313 stagnant. The transaction value reached Rp3.17 trillion with a trading volume of around 5.74 billion shares in 386 thousand transactions.
The strengthening of the IHSG this morning was supported by the rally in large-cap stocks, particularly the banking sector which once again became the main driver of the index.
Government-owned banks, BBRI rose 2.4%, BMRI 1.69%, BBNI 1.6%, BBTN 2.39%, and BRIS 1.42%. Private banks also rose more than 1% this morning.
Today’s strengthening also responds to government policies to anticipate the spillover effects of the conflict in the Middle East. As is known, the war between Iran and the United States and Israel has caused turmoil in global energy prices.
Among them is the implementation of work from home or WFH once a week for civil servants, namely on Fridays, fuel savings, budget refocusing, and changes to the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said that these eight points of policy are mitigation steps against global dynamics as well as momentum for transformation and change steps.
“This policy programme is called the 8 Pillars of National Work Culture Transformation Policy and Government Energy Policy,” said Airlangga during a live press conference from Seoul on Tuesday (30/3/2026).
In the region, Asia-Pacific stock exchanges also rose after being sluggish in the last few days. This positive sentiment was triggered by a statement from US President Donald Trump indicating the possibility of troop withdrawal in the near future.
South Korea’s Kospi Index led the strengthening with a jump of nearly 5% at the start of trading. The small-cap Kosdaq stock index also rose 4.13%, driven by a 48.3% year-on-year surge in South Korea’s exports in March, exceeding market expectations.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 index strengthened 3.51% and the Topix rose 3.17%. Positive sentiment also came from the Tankan survey released by the Bank of Japan.
Nevertheless, the market is still shadowed by challenges from the energy sector. The government has assured that non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM) prices have not increased as of 1 April 2026 and domestic energy supplies remain safe, but global energy price volatility due to the war in the Middle East remains a factor to watch.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia on Tuesday (31/3/2026) emphasised that the government will not raise non-subsidised BBM prices as of 1 April 2026.
“Regarding Pertadex or high-quality diesel fuel issues, there has been no price adjustment and what was conveyed by the Cabinet Secretary is the same, no less and no more. Of course, with world price fluctuations, we will also review according to global developments,” said Bahlil in a press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
On the same occasion, Bahlil also assured that domestic energy supplies are still in a safe condition. He stated that reserves of BBM, both diesel, petrol, avtur, and LPG, are currently above the national minimum standards.
“This means that even though we know the geopolitical tensions do not know when they will end, and some other countries have policies for efficiency. We are grateful for the president’s guidance that all our BBM reserves are above the national minimum standards,” he said.
Bahlil also emphasised that the government has obtained alternative sources for oil and LPG imports that previously came from the Middle East. According to him, this step is taken to ensure that turmoil in the region does not directly disrupt national energy needs.
“When there is tension in the Middle East, we replace from the Middle East. Alhamdulillah, we have got it, no more doubts. We have got it,” Bahlil stressed.
