Breaking News! IHSG Jumps 1% This Morning
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) immediately soared at the opening of trading on Thursday (20/8/2026). The IHSG strengthened by more than 1% in early trading, continuing positive sentiment from global markets.
Based on data from the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI) at 09:01 WIB, the IHSG stood at 6,460.28, up 66.15 points or 1.03% from the previous closing position of 6,394.13.
The IHSG’s strengthening was also reflected in the breadth of share movements. A total of 363 shares rose, while 105 shares fell and 495 other shares remained stagnant.
At the start of trading, the value of share transactions had reached Rp409.3 billion with a trading volume of around 884.1 million shares. Transaction frequency was recorded at 66,130 times. BEI market capitalisation at the start of trading was recorded at around Rp11,335 trillion.
Today’s IHSG trading will be overshadowed by a number of domestic and global sentiments. Domestically, investors are watching Bank Indonesia’s decision to maintain the BI-Rate at 5.75% in the Board of Governors Meeting on 18-19 August 2026. BI also maintained the Deposit Facility at 5% and the Lending Facility at 6.5%. This policy is directed at maintaining rupiah and inflation stability, while supporting economic growth amid global uncertainty.
Externally, market sentiment tended to receive a boost from the decline in US Treasury yields and the weakening of the US dollar. Long-tenor Treasury yields eased after the US Treasury Department doubled its bond buyback programme to at least US$4 billion per operation. The US dollar index fell 0.84% to 98.83, which could provide room for rupiah strengthening and reduce pressure on government bonds (SBN).
However, investors are still watching the FOMC minutes which show US inflation remains high. Several Fed officials even opened the possibility of interest rate hikes if inflation does not come down. This sentiment is important amid pressure from US President Donald Trump for the Fed to cut interest rates.
From the commodity market, oil prices strengthened again amid rising tensions in the Middle East. WTI rose 0.77% to US$85.59 per barrel and Brent strengthened 0.44% to US$91.42 per barrel.
Meanwhile in Asia, investors are awaiting Japan’s July trade balance data and China’s Loan Prime Rate (LPR) decision. The market expects China’s 1-year LPR to remain at 3% and the 5-year LPR at 3.5%. Japan’s data is also in focus because strong imports and exports can provide a picture of regional demand conditions, including potential demand for Indonesian products.
