BREAKING NEWS: Global Sumud Flotilla Committee Says All Volunteers Will Be Released Today
Global Sumud Flotilla Committee says all GSF members are expected to be released by Israel today and will be flown to Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday afternoon local time via Umm Al Rashrash Airport, which Israel refers to as Eilat/Ramon.
The information was received by Republika via the BoreLize ship’s family WhatsApp group. They said the news had been confirmed by several sources, though the on-the-ground situation could still change at any time.
In the GSF Incident Reporting Team notes, the members are scheduled to depart on three Turkish Airlines charter flights that will take off from the occupied Palestinian territories between 14:50 and 15:10 Palestinian time.
The three flight numbers cited are TK6919, TK6921, and TK6925.
The report also stated that the Turkish Airlines flights to the airport were not regular routes. The Turkish government is said to have chartered special flights for the transfer of GSF members to Istanbul.
The report also touched on the history of Umm Al Rashrash, which is now the site of the airport. According to the GSF report, the airport was built on land belonging to the Palestinian village Umm Al Rashrash, whose residents were displaced in the Nakba of 1948.
As of now there has been no official statement from the Turkish government or Israeli authorities regarding the report.
