BREAKING NEWS: Apple CEO Tim Cook Resigns

A major surprise has emerged from the tech giant based in Cupertino. After nearly 15 years steering one of the world’s most valuable companies, Tim Cook has officially announced his resignation from his position as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple. According to KompasTekno, sourced from the New York Times on Tuesday (21/4/2026), this leadership transition will take effect from 1 September 2026. The top position will be handed over to John Ternus, who currently serves as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering at Apple. Tim Cook took over the leadership reins at Apple on 24 August 2011, just before the departure of the legendary founder, Steve Jobs. At the time, many doubted whether a supply chain expert like Cook could maintain the innovative magic of the Jobs era. However, the numbers speak louder. Under his steady hand, Apple not only survived but evolved into an unrivalled financial giant. Throughout his tenure, Apple’s market capitalisation skyrocketed by more than 1,000%, from around $350 billion to surpassing $4 trillion (approximately Rp65,000 trillion), making it the first company in history to reach the valuation milestones of $1, $2, and $3 trillion. The company’s annual revenue also surged sharply from $108 billion in 2011 to over $416 billion in fiscal year 2025. Beyond financial achievements, Cook’s leadership era gave birth to several new product lines that now form the backbone of the company. Cook also dramatically expanded the Services division, transforming the App Store, Apple Music, and iCloud into high-margin revenue engines. “This has been the greatest privilege of my life to be CEO of Apple and to be entrusted with leading such an extraordinary company,” Cook wrote in an open letter released by Apple. As his successor, the name John Ternus is already familiar both within the company and among technology observers. Having joined Apple’s product design team since 2001, Ternus holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
