Breaking: Magnitude 6.7 Earthquake Shakes Palu

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck 42 kilometres southeast of Palu, Central Sulawesi. The quake occurred at 10:27:44 WIB on 16 June 2026 and does not have tsunami potential. Despite the absence of a tsunami risk, BMKG has warned of the possibility of aftershocks. “Be careful of aftershocks that may occur,” BMKG stated on its official website. Video footage uploaded to Instagram from a clothing and shoe store showed the shaking was quite strong, with a shopkeeper seen fleeing outside to avoid the impact of the disaster.
