Breaking: Iran Fires Drones at Ships in the Strait of Hormuz
Iran reportedly launched drones at ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday local time, or early Friday (12/6/2026). A senior US official told Fox News that ‘Iran attempted to attack commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz tonight’. ‘US forces shot down two one-way attack drones from Iran,’ the official added, according to a report published by Reuters. Iran’s military, however, stated it had stopped ‘violator ships’ attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Following US strikes on southern Iran on Tuesday and Wednesday, Tehran had announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and vowed to fire on any ships violating the order. The reports emerged as US President Donald Trump abruptly claimed his country had just reached a major peace agreement with Iran to end the Middle East war. This surprising move was followed by Trump’s decision to cancel all scheduled air bombing raids on Iranian territory that were set to be launched that night. However, the unilateral claim made by Trump was immediately and strongly denied by Tehran shortly after the White House press release circulated. Iran’s official state media, Fars, explicitly announced via its Telegram communication channel that their highest authorities had not approved any text related to a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the US. Fars assessed Trump’s sudden manoeuvre as a tactical retreat from all his military threats. Trump was deemed to have completely failed to add new points favourable to his country into the draft agreement previously proposed by Iran.
