Two construction workers fell to their deaths on Thursday at
about 9 a.m. from the fourth floor of the Mediterania Grand
Apartment being built on Jl. Tanjung Duren Raya in West Jakarta.
The two dead men were identified as Sudadi and Kasnoto. Also
injured in the accident were Suparno and Sakeh. The workers came
from Pati, Central Java.
"They were working on an outer part of the building's fourth
floor when a bolt that secured their safety belts broke off,"
said an eyewitness, Sutarwi, a construction worker who
accompanied the victims to the Mintohardjo Navy Hospital in
Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
The bodies of Sudadi and Kasnoto will be transported to their
hometown of Pati for burial.
Sudadi died shortly after arriving at the hospital with severe
head injuries, while Kasnoto died three hours later from internal
bleeding.
Suparno and Sakeh suffered serious injuries in the accident
are in the intensive care unit at the hospital.
The head of general affairs at property developer PT Persada,
Iman Rusmanto, could not be reached for comment.
Other construction workers on the site refused to speak to the
press about the accident.
An officer from the Tanjung Duren Police said his office had
not received any information about the accident.
It was the seventh fatal construction accident in Jakarta in
2003.
