Breakfast Remains Untouched Amid Chaotic Hotel Sultan Eviction
The Jakarta Pusat District Court executed the eviction of the former Hotel Sultan land following a dispute ruling, officially handing over the land and its 15 buildings to the petitioner, the government. The execution was based on the Jakarta Pusat District Court Chairman’s decree 1/PDT.EKS/2026 jo. Nomor 208/Pdt.G/2025/PN.Jkt.Pst, which deemed the eviction request legally compliant and granted it. Court clerk Azhar stated the decision considered Article 195 HIR in conjunction with Article 1033 Rv and other relevant legal provisions. The ruling granted the petitioners’ request and ordered the court clerk or a competent bailiff, accompanied by two witnesses and potentially the Indonesian National Police or other state authorities, to vacate the land and return it to the plaintiff, the State Secretariat. The eviction process was marred by chaos as a group of protesters threw stones and wood at officers. Police, aided by the military, used shields and a water cannon to disperse the crowd, eventually securing the area and detaining several suspected troublemakers. The execution moved inside the hotel around 10.10 WIB, with police securing the lobby. The reception desk was empty, and officers locked glass doors. Remaining guests, including families with children, were escorted out by policewomen while carrying their luggage. By midday, the hotel’s breakfast buffet remained fully set and largely untouched, featuring traditional dishes like soto and local cakes alongside Western fare such as salads, breads, sausages, and cereal.
