Breakdown of the Rp 15,000 Transjakarta Fare for Blok M-Soekarno-Hatta Airport Route

The Jakarta Provincial Government has established a fare of Rp 15,000 for the Transjakarta bus route connecting Blok M and Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, effective from September 2026. The President Director of PT Transjakarta, Welfizon Yuda, explained the rationale behind the pricing during a press conference at Jakarta City Hall.

According to Welfizon, a private vehicle trip from Blok M to the airport via the toll road costs approximately Rp 28,500 in tolls alone. He noted that even with eight passengers, the toll cost alone would nearly match the proposed bus fare, highlighting the significant savings for commuters. He emphasised Transjakarta’s commitment to providing an affordable and accessible service for both residents and travellers arriving in Jakarta via air.

Welfizon stated that the fare adjustment considers various factors, including Transjakarta’s cost structure, public surveys on ‘willingness to pay’, and ‘ability to pay’. While the 64km journey could theoretically cost up to Rp 70,000 per person, the current rate follows a trial period where the fare was set at only Rp 3,500. The company is also working to improve facilities at the Blok M terminal, specifically targeting better accessibility for passengers with luggage by upgrading staircases, with completion expected by September.

Sugihardjo, Chairman of the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ), explained that the Rp 15,000 rate was determined based on ‘price to performance’ and public sentiment. Surveys indicated that 80.1% of respondents found the Rp 15,000 fare appropriate for the service provided. Furthermore, the rate was compared against other operators, such as Damri and rail services, to ensure it remains fair and acceptable to the public.

Previously, the Jakarta Provincial Government issued Governor’s Decree Number 685 of 2026 to formalise this rate. The Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, clarified that this is a formal establishment of a rate rather than a fare hike, as the previous lower price was part of a trial period. He noted that the fixed rate is part of a social protection initiative to ensure affordable public transport.
