Brazil's President Lula Urges Trump to Maintain Direct Communication Without Marco Rubio

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has reportedly held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. During the discussion, Lula proposed that both countries maintain a direct communication channel without involving intermediaries. According to CNN Brasil, citing presidential advisers, the move was taken as a strategic effort to limit the influence of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Lula is said to be dissatisfied with Rubio’s actions in recent weeks and intends to establish personal contact with Trump to reduce the role of the US Secretary of State in bilateral affairs between the two countries. During the conversation, President Lula expressed his concerns regarding the information Trump had received about the Brazilian government’s policies. Lula assessed that the data reaching Trump’s desk was distorted and contained several fatal errors. One of the crucial points discussed was disinformation regarding Brazil’s electronic voting system. Lula stressed the importance of accurate understanding to avoid diplomatic misunderstandings. The Lula administration reportedly holds high hopes that bilateral relations with the US under Trump’s leadership can improve, especially if Lula wins another mandate in this year’s election. As a sign of seriousness in improving relations, the Brazilian government indicated that Lula is prepared to make an official visit to the United States next year if re-elected.
