Brazilian President Claims US Fabricates Lies to Attack Iran

Brasilia (ANTARA) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Wednesday (1/4) to the press that the United States (US) fabricated a lie as a pretext to launch an “unnecessary war” against Iran. “The US is engaged in an unnecessary war in Iran, claiming that Iran has nuclear weapons or is trying to make nuclear weapons. That’s a lie!” Lula stated in an interview in the State of Ceara, northeastern Brazil. He mentioned that the US has repeatedly launched wars based on lies, citing as an example the alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that were never found. “That was just a pretext and war has never solved anything,” Lula revealed. Lula called on the United Nations (UN) Security Council to rationally reflect on the conflict, while revealing that the situation directly impacts Brazil by triggering fuel price increases and heightening economic pressures. With the Strait of Hormuz blocked, Brazil faces pressure from rising diesel prices, he said, adding that the Brazilian Government has lowered fuel taxes and increased market surveillance to protect the livelihoods of low-income citizens. The US and Israel launched a joint military attack against Iran on 28 February, which disrupted global shipping, caused oil prices to surge, and shook the global economy.
