Brazilian Content Creator Robbed at Marosi Beach in West Sumba
Brazilian content creator Ferri Cangussu Nicolas (28) was robbed at Marosi Beach in Patiala Bawa Village, Lamboya District, West Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). His electronic devices, camera equipment, and cash were stolen while he was photographing the scenic beach.
Semuel Dato Mesa, Head of West Sumba’s Tourism and Creative Economy Office, told detikBali on Saturday (30 May 2026) that the theft occurred around 4pm WITA on Thursday (28 May). Initially, Ferri was walking along the beach photographing children bathing horses.
According to Semuel, the foreigner had placed a bag containing lenses, a drone, passport, and USD 300 in cash. While he was busy creating content, a child took the bag and ran off.
“He was unaware his bag had been stolen. The children bathing the horses witnessed the act and immediately shouted ‘thief’. The thief, feeling cornered, discarded the victim’s belongings into the bushes,” Semuel explained.
After the theft, locals accompanied Ferri to report the incident to the police. By Friday (29 May) morning, most of Ferri’s stolen items were recovered, though one drone propeller was broken.
“All items, including USD 300, IDR 2 million in cash, a drone, camera lenses, five camera batteries, AirPods, an ATM card, and a Honda Scoopy motorcycle ignition key, were found intact,” Semuel stated.
Semuel expressed regret over the incident affecting the Brazilian tourist, stating it tarnished West Sumba’s tourism reputation.
“We are grateful for the police’s swift action in resolving the case and recovering the tourist’s belongings,” he added.
“It is hoped the perpetrator can be apprehended soon, as they have not yet been located,” he concluded.
West Sumba Police Chief Yohanis Nisa Pewali declined to comment on the incident, stating he was busy escorting a corpse. “We’ll talk later, I’m still delivering the body,” Semuel said briefly via WhatsApp on Saturday.
