Rio de Janeiro (ANTARA) - Brazil and the United States are preparing a new round of face-to-face talks on US tariffs on Brazilian goods, likely at the end of September, Brazilian officials said on Monday.

Brazil’s Minister of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Marcio Elias Rosa, said he is expected to meet with the US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer, during the G20 ministers’ meeting to be held in the United States from 30 September to 1 October.

“These talks are open-ended, and Brazil is willing to negotiate,” Elias Rosa told reporters, adding that Brazil would defend the interests of its companies and workers while maintaining dialogue.

The new round of negotiations follows the resumption of talks between the two countries after an August telephone conversation between Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and US President Donald Trump.

Elias Rosa said Brazil rejects what it sees as the unjustified unilateral imposition of tariffs. However, Brazil has no intention of retaliating by closing its own economy or engaging in a trade war.

“Brazil believes in multilateralism, dialogue, and negotiation. We will not abandon these principles,” he said.

The US currently imposes additional tariffs on a number of Brazilian products, with combined tariffs reaching 37.5 per cent under measures introduced through several trade investigations.

According to Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, the new US policy has had varying levels of impact on 23.1 per cent of Brazilian exports to the United States.

Brazilian exports to the US reached 17.4 billion US dollars (1 US dollar = Rp17,635) in the first half of 2026, down 13 per cent from the previous year. Meanwhile, the US share of Brazilian exports has shrunk to 9.4 per cent, the lowest level since 1997.
