Brazen Post-Sahur Motorcycle Theft in Duren Sawit: Thieves Pull Gun on Security Guard, N-Max Nearly Stolen
Jakarta, VIVA — Two motorcycle theft suspects pointed a firearm at a security guard during an attempted robbery.
The incident took place on Jalan Pendidikan, within the IKIP housing complex in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Sunday, 22 February 2026. Fortunately, the attempt was foiled.
The motorcycle’s owner, Muhammad Isan Alfalah, recounted that the incident occurred after he had eaten his sahur (pre-dawn Ramadan meal) and was about to go back to sleep at approximately 05:30 local time.
“I was just about to fall asleep when my wife woke me up saying there was a thief. I saw my motorcycle had been knocked over, and the complex security guard was there. I asked which way the thief had fled,” he said on Monday, 23 February 2026.
He explained that the suspects were spotted by the housing complex’s security guards who were on patrol. The guards gave chase to the suspects.
During the pursuit, one of the suspects drew a firearm and pointed it at the security guard to deter further pursuit.
One of the complex’s security guards managed to strike the suspect with a baton, but the perpetrator continued attempting to make off with the motorcycle.
The suspect even managed to slip through the left side of the complex after all barrier gates had been closed, climbing over an artificial plant pot approximately 10 centimetres high.
Isan said he heard shouts of “thief” in front of his house and saw his Yamaha N-Max motorcycle lying on the ground.
According to the security guards’ account, the two motorcycle thieves fled towards the exit gate.
Several security guards were subsequently able to intercept and apprehend the suspects, as they were familiar with all the exit routes.
“They monitored via handheld radio where the suspects were heading. The suspects doubled back to the front of the complex’s alleyway and exited through the side of the barrier gate that had already been closed,” he said.
He noted that the complex’s security guards were threatened with being shot when the suspect pointed the firearm at them.
Fortunately, he said, none of the security guards were shot and his motorcycle was saved from the theft attempt.
“Thank God, everyone is safe, and my motorcycle is safe too. I wasn’t personally threatened — only the security guards received the threat of being shot,” said Isan.
Earlier on the same day, Sunday, 22 February 2026, another attempted motorcycle theft occurred on Jalan Raya Otista III in Jatinegara at approximately 09:30 local time, which went viral on the Instagram account @kabar.otista.
