Brawl in Kemanggisan, West Jakarta; Police Increase Patrols
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police officers have increased patrols in the Kemanggisan area of Palmerah, West Jakarta, in response to a brawl between rival groups of teenagers at the location on Saturday (14 March).
Palmerah Police Chief Kompol Gomos Simamora stated that his unit would deploy personnel in the area during hours considered high-risk for such incidents.
“We will also call upon the heads of residents’ associations from both groups involved in the conflict so we can educate the young people,” Gomos said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday.
However, police have yet to determine the motive behind the brawl between the two groups from Jalan Saili and Jalan Rosliana in Kemanggisan Village during this Ramadan period.
Gomos speculated that one of the teenagers may have provoked the confrontation by firing firecrackers towards the rival group to trigger the brawl.
In a viral video recording, both groups exchanged firecracker volleys whilst wielding wooden sticks and sharp weapons.
The brawl frightened nearby residents, who screamed for the teenagers to end their fight.
Police officers who received the report promptly headed to the location. However, before police arrived, both groups had already dispersed.
