Brawl Before Sahur: Six Students in Bogor Apprehended Carrying Stone-Filled Sarongs
Police apprehended six secondary school students on Transyogi Cariu-Cianjur Highway in Cariu, Bogor, West Java, for their involvement in a brawl. A cloth sarong filled with stones and tightly wound, believed to have been intended for use in a “sarong war,” was seized.
“We detained six youths who are still enrolled as secondary school students. Officers also recovered evidence in the form of a sarong that had been tightly wound and filled with stones inside, suspected of being used as a weapon,” said Cariu Police Chief Superintendent Agus Hidayat on Sunday (22 February 2026).
Agus explained that the six students were detained following a report from residents about a gathering of people at approximately 1.30am local time. A patrol team immediately proceeded to the location and prevented the brawl from escalating.
“During routine patrols ahead of the pre-dawn meal, our team encountered a sarong war brawl involving groups of youths from Tanggulun and Pahae hamlets. Officers on the ground moved swiftly to disperse the groups in order to prevent casualties or injuries,” Agus said.
“There were no injuries in this incident. The six youths were immediately taken to Cariu Police Station for counselling and further documentation,” he added.
Agus urged parents to more strictly supervise their children’s activities, particularly during vulnerable hours from nightfall through to dawn.
“We call on the participation of parents and community leaders to jointly maintain public order. Do not allow our children to roam about during curfew hours, as they are highly vulnerable to becoming involved in brawls that can harm themselves and others,” Agus said.
