Brawijaya University Welcomes 57 Full-Degree International Students from 35 Countries
Brawijaya University (UB) has accepted 57 new international students from 35 countries under its full-degree programme at bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, according to Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof Dr Imam Santoso.
“We recorded 57 new full-degree international students for the 2026/2027 academic year, and there are currently 113 active international students studying at UB,” Prof Imam said during the opening of the New Student Campus Life Introduction (PKKMB) at the UB campus in Malang, East Java, on Monday.
For short-term or non-degree programmes, Prof Imam noted that the number of registered international students exceeds 2,000 from various parts of the world, including Asia, the Middle East, East Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Regarding efforts to equalise access to education, including through affirmative action programmes, Prof Imam said UB maintains affirmative quotas for the Malang Raya region and the frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) areas, and offers the ADik Scholarship programme for students from Papua.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship Dr Setiawan Noerdajasakti said UB provides several financial aid and scholarship schemes for new students.
“Each scholarship provider has its own criteria and rules. As for the Kartu Indonesia Pintar Kuliah (KIP-K) scholarship programme, it is currently in the proposal stage. Recipient determination is usually finalised around October. We also provide scholarships from the UB Endowment Fund and Baznas,” he said.
During the PKKMB held on 10-12 August 2026, several prominent figures will serve as speakers, including Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Sunarto, President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Saiful Hidayat, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Erani Yustika.
Meanwhile, Chief Organiser of Raja Brawijaya 2026 Daffa Yasa Pratama said this year’s PKKMB brings several innovations compared to previous editions.
Raja Brawijaya 2026 highlights five main issues: mental health and anti-sexual violence, inclusivity, global perspectives, artificial intelligence (AI) and digitalisation, and sustainability.
“This year we want Raja Brawijaya to become a world-class university orientation. UB is a world-class campus, so its PKKMB must also meet standards that support that direction. Therefore, we are emphasising internationalisation at Raja Brawijaya this year,” he said.
The strengthening of global perspectives is realised through the involvement of international students from various countries in the series of activities. This step is expected to provide a more diverse experience for new students while introducing UB’s academic environment connected to the global community.
In addition to digital innovation, attention to new students’ mental health is also strengthened through mental health screening during the collection of alma mater jackets, digital campaigns, and the provision of counsellors throughout the Raja Brawijaya series.
Raja Brawijaya 2026 is designed to be more interactive by combining educational and entertainment elements, featuring the Candra Sena Ambassador programme as a platform for new students to become agents of positive campaigns while encouraging the emergence of inspiration and achievement within the student community.
Daffa expressed hope that the innovative, breakthrough, and creative spirit of Raja Brawijaya 2026 can serve as a first step for new students to grow as a Brawijaya generation capable of adapting, being open to diversity and global developments, and having concern for sustainability towards Indonesia Emas 2045.
