BRAN chief pledges full support for public housing programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) – National Agrarian Reform Agency (BRAN) chief Dedi Prasetyo said the agency would fully support the public housing programme being implemented by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) by identifying areas and land that could be used.
“As the newly appointed head of the National Agrarian Reform Agency, the information conveyed by the minister, Mr Maruarar Sirait, and his team regarding land issues will naturally be a priority for us,” Dedi said during a meeting with the PKP Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He said the meeting was an initial step towards mapping agrarian issues affecting the ministry.
After receiving information about land problems related to public housing, his agency would work to resolve them, Dedi said.
BRAN will therefore soon collect data and establish an agrarian reform system to provide certainty about which sites can be developed for housing, in support of the three-million-homes programme.
“The first step is a single-data system for agrarian reform. This is important because it provides certainty, including for the Housing Ministry, about which sites will be developed for subsidised and non-subsidised housing. That way, the three-million-homes construction target can be coordinated,” he said.
Earlier, Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait called on BRAN to provide certainty on land issues so that everything complied with the applicable regulations.
“The key is simply certainty,” PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait, popularly known as Ara, said after meeting BRAN chief Dedi Prasetyo.
He said agrarian issues needed to be addressed promptly and given legal certainty to prevent prolonged conflicts in the future.
According to him, regions must map land-use designations, including areas for rice fields, housing and sites that could be used for energy.
Ara said this would help prevent future problems from disrupting investment or government programmes such as food self-sufficiency.
He called on BRAN to map land issues, noting that the PKP Ministry could not resolve land-related problems on its own.
