The Ministry of Manpower, through the Banda Aceh Vocational and Productivity Training Centre (BPVP) and in collaboration with the NGO Institut Hijau Indonesia, is preparing an electrical installation job training programme for disaster survivors in North Aceh Regency. BPVP Banda Aceh Head Rahmad Faisal stated that the NGO proposed the training and will work together with the centre. During their latest meeting, the planned activity for this year was confirmed as electrical training for disaster victims. However, Faisal noted that the technical implementation is still under discussion, meaning BPVP is also assessing its suitability with the needs of the affected community. “We have provided input and may hold another meeting via Zoom with the NGO’s headquarters in Jakarta to match this programme,” he said. “We are currently examining what the community’s needs are. Whether they only require training, or jobs. So we do not misstep later,” he added. Faisal also emphasised that providing job training programmes for the community, especially disaster victims, is an obligation the government, through the Ministry of Manpower, must fulfil. To date, the ministry has provided various forms of assistance to disaster survivors, including construction training for independent workers, labour-intensive programmes, and entrepreneurship training. “The ministry itself has already done a lot. Before Eid al-Adha, there was entrepreneurship training for disaster victims in Pidie Jaya along with business assistance of Rp2.5 million each,” Faisal concluded.
