Head of the Communication and Digital Human Resource Development Agency (BPSDM Komdigi), Boni Pudjianto, reminded teachers and parents to actively guide children in the digital space as threats such as hoaxes, digital scams, and AI-generated content manipulation become increasingly difficult to detect.

“Teachers must educate students on distinguishing positive and negative aspects, particularly false information,” Boni said during the National Education Day Digital Literacy event at Garuda Spark Innovation Hub in Central Jakarta on Monday (25 May), according to a Komdigi official statement on Tuesday.

Boni stated that teachers play a strategic role as the frontline in protecting children from online threats, including false information, digital scams, and AI technology misuse.

“Teachers are the key custodians with a crucial strategic role. They not only impart knowledge but also guide and shape children’s character when navigating the digital age,” he said.

He noted that teacher guidance is essential to foster a healthy, ethical, and responsible digital culture, creating a safe and inclusive digital space for children.

Boni explained that digital inclusivity is not only about providing internet access and connectivity, but also ensuring every child has equal opportunities to learn, participate, express themselves, and be protected when using digital platforms.

“Inclusivity is not merely about connectivity or access, but also ensuring every child has equal opportunities to learn, participate, express themselves, and be safeguarded in the digital space,” he added.

Furthermore, Boni stressed that digital transformation must proceed hand-in-hand with efforts to protect children in child-friendly, inclusive, and equitable digital spaces.

He added that strengthening digital literacy is also vital to uphold values of empathy, equality, and societal support amid rapid digital technological advancements.
