Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti assessed that changes in survey data coverage were one of the factors influencing the decline in the sharia financial literacy and inclusion index in 2026. She stated that this year’s data collection was carried out with a wider coverage, reaching the provincial level, whereas the previous year’s survey only covered the national level. “Now we are more comprehensive, reaching the provincial level. The regional coverage is visible,” Amalia said in Jakarta on Monday. The 2026 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) recorded the sharia financial literacy index at 43.07 percent, down from 43.42 percent the previous year. A decline also occurred in the sharia financial inclusion index, which was recorded at 13.24 percent in 2026, compared to 13.41 percent the year before. However, Amalia noted that further analysis is required to determine the exact factors affecting the changes in the sharia financial literacy and inclusion indices. “We need to dissect it later so that it’s an apple-to-apple comparison,” she said. Overall, the 2026 SNLIK recorded the public’s financial literacy index at 69.57 percent, an increase of 2.93 percentage points from 66.64 percent in 2025. Meanwhile, the financial inclusion index reached 93.61 percent in 2026, up 0.87 percentage points from 92.74 percent the previous year.
