BPS updates 2026 Indonesian Standard Classification of Occupations following labour market dynamics

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) is updating the Indonesian Standard Classification of Occupations (KBJI) through BPS Regulation Number 7 of 2026, in response to the dynamics of both national and international labour markets.

“This update to the KBJI is essential to address the increasingly rapid dynamics of the labour market, including the emergence of digital jobs and green jobs,” said the Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, during the launch of KBJI 2026 in Jakarta on Friday.

The KBJI 2026, developed by BPS in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), serves as a grouping of all occupations based on the specific tasks performed.

Amalia stated that this classification organises occupations into 10 main groups, covering various types of work across multiple sectors.

“With this standardised structure, occupational information can be collected and presented consistently, making it easy to compare across regions and time, and even between countries, as we refer to international standards,” Amalia noted.

She added that KBJI 2026 was developed with reference to the ISCO-08 standard, which is the occupational classification standard developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) through ILOSTAT, grouping occupations based on skill levels and specialisations.

“Thus, KBJI 2026 bridges international standards with national needs, while also serving as a reference to produce more consistent, relevant, and analysable occupational data,” she added.
