The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will focus on recording economic activities carried out by both businesses and families utilising digital platforms or online marketplaces during the 2026 Economic Census. This means those trading on TikTok or other social media will also be recorded. BPS Deputy Chief Sonny Harry Budiotomo Harmadi explained that during the 2026 Economic Census, officers will visit every citizen’s home. “We will go door to door. Because many business activities are now conducted from home, using TikTok or social media, they are not visible from the outside. We can only record and identify them if we enter the houses,” he said at the launch of the 2026 Economic Census in Semarang, Central Java, on Thursday (18/6/2026). He stated that this data collection is crucial for comprehensively mapping the economic potential and conditions in each region. Furthermore, the data will be beneficial for the government in formulating appropriate economic policies. “So we will visit all business units and also go door to door. Because many businesses are run from home without a signboard and are unregistered,” Sonny added.
