BPS to Collect Data from MSMEs to Households for 2026 Economic Census
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) will collect data from business actors across all sectors, down to the household level, for the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026).
Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti explained that the household economy is a crucial part of the national economic ecosystem, which underpinned the decision to include this segment in the census.
“This economic census is like a medical record. When conducting a medical check-up, we must examine all aspects thoroughly to understand the actual condition, so the government can formulate appropriate policies,” Amalia said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday.
The SE2026 will produce various information, including the number and characteristics of business actors across all scales, including MSMEs, their potential and contribution to the economy, their distribution, and the condition of household economies.
Field data collection for SE2026 will be conducted door-to-door from 15 June to 31 August 2026. SE2026 officers will be equipped with three attributes: an identification card with a QR code for official verification, an official economic census vest, and a letter of assignment from BPS.
Amalia also encouraged public participation with a simple message, “TIR”: Terima (Accept) the census officer, Isi (Fill in) with correct answers, and Rahasia (Secrecy) is guaranteed.
BPS assured that the security and confidentiality of public data are protected by Law Number 16 of 1997 on Statistics, specifically Articles 21 and 24, as well as Law Number 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection. “The public’s answers in the economic census are very important because the benefits of various policies will be felt by the community,” she added.
