REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) records that there are currently still 211 neighbourhood units (RW) in Jakarta that fall into the slum category. This finding was obtained based on the results of data collection in 2025 and finalisation in 2026.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the data collection was conducted using satellite imagery. In addition, her agency also carried out direct field surveys to confirm the existence of slum RW in Jakarta.

“So essentially, we used two approaches. Direct field data collection approaches, combined with calibration through satellite imagery methodology,” she said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

She mentioned that based on the results of that data collection, there are still 211 out of a total of 2,749 RW in Jakarta that fall into the slum category. This result is a combination of field data collection and satellite imagery.

“Therefore, the identified slum RW are 211 slum RW,” Amalia stated.

Nevertheless, she said that BPS will continue data collection on slum RW in Jakarta. This is because there are still 1,904 RW that need verification of their slum level.

The number has decreased

Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the latest data collection by BPS shows a reduction in the number of slum RW in the capital. This is because, based on 2017 data, the number of slum RW in Jakarta reached 445 RW.

“So, there has been a decrease in slum RW from 445 in 2017 to 211 this year. The reduction is approximately 52.58 percent,” he said.

Pramono also agreed with BPS to deepen the data on around 1,900 RW that have been considered non-slum. This is seen as able to ensure the accuracy of existing data.

“Overall, in principle, even if there are 1,900 that were previously considered non-slum, I also agree to deepen it further,” he stated.
