The 2026 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLK), conducted by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS), indicates an improvement in financial literacy and inclusion. The survey involved 75,000 respondents across 38 provinces and 514 regencies/cities. BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that the financial literacy index rose to 69.57% this year, an increase of 2.93% from 2025. ‘This means that around 70 out of 100 Indonesians aged 15 to 79 have met the well-literate criteria,’ Amalia explained during a press conference in Jakarta. She noted that the urban financial literacy index remains relatively higher than in rural areas, though both saw improvements. By gender, the financial literacy levels for men and women are now relatively balanced, with both experiencing increases. Nationally, the financial inclusion index rose from 92.74% to 93.61%, an increase of 0.87%. In rural areas, the Financial Literacy Index saw a significant jump of 4.55 basis points. The three provinces with the highest financial inclusion indices are DKI Jakarta, followed by DI Yogyakarta and the Riau Islands. However, eastern Indonesia continues to lag behind. ‘The achievements in Papua Pegunungan, Papua Tengah, and North Maluku indicate that there is still room for strengthening going forward,’ Amalia said. Graphics presented during the briefing showed that the inclusion index in these three provinces was only around 70%. Literacy levels were far lower, with Papua Pegunungan at just 17.65%, Papua Selatan at 36.97%, and Papua Tengah at 34.62%.
