Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) stated that East Java’s economy grew by 5.96% year-on-year (yoy) in the first quarter of 2026. The Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at constant prices reached Rp532.66 trillion, while at current prices it was recorded at Rp888.44 trillion in the first quarter of this year. “Comparing the economy of Q1 2026 to Q1 2025, it grew 5.96%,” said Mid-Level Expert Statistician from BPS East Java, Nurul Adriana, during a press conference in Surabaya on Tuesday. By business field, East Java’s economy was supported by other services growing 13.44%, followed by accommodation and food and beverage provision at 10.53%. It was also bolstered by corporate services growing 8.13% and water supply at 7.87%. By expenditure, the highest growth was in the government consumption expenditure component (PK-P) at 20.33%, followed by non-profit institutions serving households consumption expenditure (PK-LNPRT) at 8.77%. Next, the gross fixed capital formation component (PMTB) grew 7.50%, and household consumption expenditure (PK-RT) grew 5.89%. Furthermore, the export of goods and services component grew 1.96%, while the import of goods and services component, as a deduction in GRDP, grew 3%. Meanwhile, spatially, the economic structure of Java Island in Q1 2026 was dominated by DKI Jakarta Province with a contribution to Java’s GRDP of 29.13%, followed by East Java Province at 25.16%, West Java Province at 22.63%, Central Java Province at 14.50%, Banten Province at 7.00%, and DI Yogyakarta Province at 1.57%. In Q1 2026, the highest year-on-year economic growth was achieved by East Java Province at 5.96%, followed by Central Java Province at 5.89%, DI Yogyakarta Province at 5.84%, West Java Province at 5.79%, Banten Province at 5.64%, and DKI Jakarta Province at 5.59%.
