BPS: Star-rated hotel occupancy reaches 54.28 per cent during school holidays and Hajj
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a room occupancy rate (TPK) of 54.28 per cent for star-rated hotels in June 2026, an increase of 3.52 per cent compared to May 2026, when the figure stood at 49.98 per cent.
“The rise in TPK was driven by increased domestic tourist mobility during the school holidays, national public holidays and collective leave days, as well as the return of hajj pilgrims, which boosted hotel occupancy across all hajj embarkation and debarkation provinces,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, in a press statement followed online in Jakarta on Monday.
The TPK for star-rated hotels is the room occupancy rate at star-rated hotels, namely the percentage of star-rated hotel rooms occupied compared to all rooms available over a given period.
Ateng said the TPK for star-rated hotels rose 4.30 per cent year-on-year, with the highest rate recorded in Bali Province at 64.87 per cent, followed by Gorontalo at 60.68 per cent and the Special Region of Yogyakarta at 60.36 per cent.
Meanwhile, the three provinces with the lowest star-rated hotel occupancy were Aceh at 29.83 per cent, Maluku at 27.82 per cent and Highland Papua at 20.55 per cent.
“As many as 36 provinces recorded an increase in star-rated hotel TPK in June 2026 compared to May 2026, whilst only 4 provinces, namely Maluku, Southwest Papua, Papua and Central Papua, experienced a decline in star-rated hotel TPK in June 2026 compared to May 2026,” said Ateng.
Ateng said the star-rated hotel TPK was generally influenced by the dynamics or activities of various events, such as meetings, conferences and other activities at both national and international levels.
According to BPS, hotel occupancy rates in June indicate that the hospitality sector continues to receive support from a combination of tourism activity, business travel and the staging of various events involving large numbers of participants.
