BPS: Shallot Prices Fall Significantly in Second Week of August

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has reported a significant decline in shallot prices during the second week of August 2026. Nationally, the commodity recorded a price decrease of 10.64 percent.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, revealed that the national average price of shallots now stands at Rp37,714 per kilogram (kg). This figure dropped sharply compared to the previous week, which remained at around Rp42,000 per kg.

“Shallots in the second week of August experienced a fairly high decline of 10.64 percent, with the current price at Rp37,714 compared to last week’s price of Rp42,000,” Ateng said during the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, which was attended online in Jakarta on Tuesday (18/8).

Ateng explained that the current price position has fallen between the lower and upper bounds of the Government Reference Price (HAP) at the consumer level, which is set at Rp41,500 per kg. Nevertheless, BPS provided a special note for eastern Indonesia.

Although the national trend is declining, a number of regions in eastern Indonesia still recorded shallot prices far exceeding the HAP. This is suspected to be due to greater distribution challenges in those areas.

In addition to shallots, BPS also monitored price movements for other food commodities such as purebred chicken eggs and cooking oil. For purebred chicken eggs, although prices declined nationally, BPS recorded that 128 districts/cities (around 38.89 percent) still experienced price increases. Meanwhile, for cooking oil, 87 districts/cities still recorded an upward price trend amid a slight overall decline.
