BPS reveals potential increase in Indonesia's rice harvest area and production for June-August

The potential rice harvest area during June to August 2026 is estimated to reach 2.88 million hectares, an increase of 1.38 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has revealed that the potential rice harvest area and production in Indonesia for the period of June to August 2026 are expected to increase compared to the same period last year.

BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the potential rice harvest area during June to August 2026 is estimated to reach 2.88 million hectares, or an increase of 1.38 per cent compared to the same period last year.

In line with this, potential rice production for June to August 2026 is estimated to reach 14.61 million tonnes of dry unhusked grain (GKG), a year-on-year increase of 1.18 per cent. Meanwhile, rice production is estimated to reach 8.42 million tonnes, an increase of 1.17 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

Meanwhile, the actual rice harvest area in May 2026 was recorded at 0.96 million hectares, a decrease of 2.35 per cent compared to May 2025, which reached 0.98 million hectares.

In line with the decline in harvest area, rice production also fell by 3.43 per cent from 5.09 million tonnes of GKG in May 2025 to 4.92 million tonnes of GKG in May 2026.

Furthermore, rice production in May 2026 was recorded at approximately 2.84 million tonnes, a decrease of 3.43 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.

In addition to rice, BPS also reported a positive performance for corn commodities, with the actual harvest area in May 2026 reaching 0.21 million hectares, an increase of 22.04 per cent compared to May 2025.

Production of dry shelled corn with a 14 per cent moisture content in May 2026 reached 1.18 million tonnes, an increase of 19.79 per cent compared to May last year.

Cumulatively, production of dry shelled corn with a 14 per cent moisture content during January to May 2026 reached 7.20 million tonnes, a slight increase of 2.80 per cent compared to the same period the previous year.
