The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has unveiled a list of food commodities requiring special attention ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026, with several showing significant price increases across various regions.

BPS Head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that food price monitoring ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr was conducted through the Price Development Index (IPH) through the first week of March 2026. From this monitoring, the commodity requiring greatest attention is chicken eggs.

Chicken Eggs

Nationally, the average price of chicken eggs reached Rp32,475 per kilogram (kg). Price increases for this commodity have also occurred widely across various regions.

“The price development index we recorded up to the first week of March 2026 requires attention, particularly the increase in chicken eggs, with 210 districts/cities experiencing IPH increases,” Amalia said during a Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting on Monday, 9 March 2026.

In several regions, price increases have far exceeded the Reference Sale Price (HAP). For example, in Taliabu Island District and North Buton.

“In Papua particularly, egg prices are 90% above HAP and still experiencing 12% inflation, with the current average chicken egg price there at Rp57,000 (per kg),” she said.

Red Chilli Peppers

The next commodity requiring attention is red chilli peppers. The national average price for this commodity was recorded at Rp71,429 per kg.

Although the number of regions experiencing price increases has begun to decline to 177 districts/cities, BPS noted that several areas are experiencing quite sharp price surges.

“Red chilli peppers nationally remain a concern because on average nationally the price of red chilli peppers is Rp71,429 (per kg),” she noted.

Several regions have recorded prices far above the HAP of Rp57,000 per kg. In West Bandung District, red chilli pepper prices are already 38.6% above HAP, whilst in Cirebon District they have reached Rp120,000 per kg.

“This is approximately 110.5% above HAP and this is still experiencing an IPH change of 31.47%,” she said.

Price surges have also occurred in East Lombok, Boven Digoel, and Bima.

“East Lombok District is also 100% above HAP, and Boven Digoel and Bima districts are 50.88% above HAP,” she added.

Amalia noted that whilst price increases typically occur extensively in eastern Indonesia, the red chilli pepper price surge this time has also affected Java. This requires attention, as red chilli peppers are among the commodities experiencing rising demand ahead of Eid.

Chicken Meat

Another commodity experiencing increases is chicken meat. Nationally, the average price has reached Rp41,181 per kg, which is already above the HAP of Rp40,000 per kg.

Chicken meat price increases were recorded in 176 districts/cities.

“Areas experiencing quite significant chicken meat price increases include Sarmi District, Siak District, Southwest Sumba District, Thousand Islands District, and Pasangkayu District,” Amalia said.

Shallots

For shallots, BPS recorded prices beginning to decline nationally, though still slightly above the HAP of Rp41,500 per kg.

However, in several regions, shallot prices remain high. For example, in Thousand Islands District reaching around Rp59,000 per kg, and in Kapuas Hulu and Sanggau at around Rp56,000-Rp57,000 per kg.

Additionally, the number of regions experiencing shallot price increases has risen to 136 districts/cities.

Rice Relatively Stable

Meanwhile, rice remains relatively stable. Nationally, prices have even slightly declined.

“Rice generally, nationally is stable with a slight decline of 0.003%. However, 102 districts/cities still experienced rice price increases,” she said.

The highest rice price in the first week of March 2026 was recorded at Rp45,000 per kg in Puncak Jaya District.

Amalia stated that several food commodities require continued government attention in maintaining price stability ahead of Eid.

“Therefore, our note is that in preparing for Eid al-Fitr, several commodities requiring attention from all parties are chicken eggs, red chilli peppers, chicken meat, and shallots,” Amalia said.

“Rice only shows increases in several districts/cities, but most importantly, chicken eggs, red chilli peppers, chicken meat, and shallots require attention to then achieve price stabilisation,” she concluded.
