The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) carried out a field check on 106,000 premium assistance recipients (PBI) of BPJS Health who suffer from catastrophic or chronic diseases. BPS revealed that there are 3,934 PBI individuals with chronic illnesses who have already passed away.

“From the results of the stage 1 PBI field check, we found that there are 3,934 individuals who have already died,” said BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at the Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Amalia stated that there are more than 89,000 PBI who have been confirmed to suffer from catastrophic diseases. She mentioned that Kemensos will follow up on providing assistance to the confirmed PBI.

“Then there are 89,559 who have been found and confirmed to indeed suffer from catastrophic diseases, so of course Mr Minister of Social Affairs will follow it up by continuing the provision of benefits to those PBI,” she said.

BPS also revealed the existence of PBI who have not yet been located. Amalia said that her side will continue to track their whereabouts.

“Then there are around 9,401 who we have not yet found; we are continuing to trace where they are,” she said.

On the same occasion, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) added that his side will check with BPJS Health regarding the unidentified recipients. The check is planned for tomorrow.

“Tomorrow, insyaallah, the team will head to BPJS Health for these 9,000; they might have changed hospitals or moved places, which we need to confirm, and that will take time,” said Gus Ipul.

“If they have passed away, it will automatically be redirected to other beneficiaries because the allocation does not decrease,” he added.
