BPS Records Wage Increase, Highest in These 5 Business Sectors

The National Labour Force Survey (Sakernas) by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) for May 2026 recorded an increase in the average monthly wage of workers compared to February 2026. The average worker wage based on the May 2026 Sakernas was recorded at Rp 3.39 million, approximately 3.08% higher than in February 2026. “During the period between February and May 2026, a 3.08% increase in worker wages was recorded,” according to BPS notes on Wednesday (5/8/2026). The BPS survey showed that the average wage for male workers reached Rp 3.69 million, higher than the Rp 2.86 million for female workers. Meanwhile, based on business sector, the highest average worker wage was in the mining sector at Rp 5.79 million. This was followed by electricity and gas supply at Rp 5.55 million, and financial and insurance activities at Rp 5.51 million. Next were the real estate sector with an average wage of Rp 5.29 million, publishing and telecommunications activities at Rp 5.24 million, and government administration at Rp 4.14 million. Professional and administrative activities recorded Rp 4.04 million, transportation and storage Rp 4.02 million, and health and social activities Rp 3.62 million. For the industrial sector, the average wage was Rp 3.42 million, construction Rp 3.32 million, education Rp 3.2 million, and water supply and waste management Rp 3.06 million. The lowest average wages were in the wholesale and retail trade sector at Rp 2.88 million, accommodation and food and beverage at Rp 2.64 million, agriculture at Rp 2.37 million, and other service activities at Rp 2.26 million. “Workers in the Mining and Quarrying sector earned the highest wage of Rp 5.79 million,” the BPS report stated. BPS also recorded the largest wage increases by business sector. The first was real estate activities with an average wage increase of 30.68% compared to February 2026. This was followed by electricity and gas supply at 17.30%. Mining recorded a 16.98% increase, placing it third highest for wage growth between February and May 2026, along with other service activities at 12.74% and publishing and telecommunications activities at 10.32%. Education saw a 10.20% increase, water supply and waste management 9.20%, and financial and insurance activities rose 9.06%, together with industry which rose 3.99%. The remainder were below the national worker wage increase percentage of 3.08%.
