BPS records slight 0.16% rise in medium- and premium-grade rice prices
Jakarta (ANTARA) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded slight increases of 0.16% in the national prices of both medium- and premium-grade rice in the fourth week of October 2026.
Ateng Hartono, BPS deputy for distribution and services, said that although the overall change in the Rice Price Development Index (IPH) was relatively low, prices were still rising sharply in some areas.
“Overall, medium-grade rice rose by 0.16%, and premium-grade rice also increased by the same amount, 0.16%, in the fourth week of October,” Ateng said at a Regional Inflation Control Meeting monitored online in Jakarta on Monday.
BPS data show the national average price of medium-grade rice stood at Rp14,677 per kilogram. This was above the maximum retail price (HET) of Rp13,500 per kg for Zone 1 and Rp14,000 per kg for Zone 2, but remained below the Zone 3 limit of Rp15,500 per kg.
Ateng said rice prices continued to rise in several areas in the fourth week of October. West Manggarai regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) recorded the steepest increase, at 5.84%, followed by East Manggarai regency at 4.48%.
Several other regencies and municipalities also saw increases of around 3%, including South Lampung and Gunung Mas regency.
The figures show that, despite the relatively small national increase, price pressures persist in some regions and need to be monitored to maintain price stability and ensure food remains affordable for the public.
