The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has recorded a significant increase in foreign tourist visits and domestic tourist movements in March 2026. Cumulatively, from January to March 2026, the number of foreign tourist visits was recorded at 3.44 million visits, growing 8.62% compared to the same period in 2025 (year-on-year). β€œThe foreign tourist visits from January to March 2026 represent the highest achievement since 2020,” said Ateng in Jakarta on Monday, 4 May 2026. Based on nationality, tourists from Malaysia remain the largest contributors to visits to Indonesia with 186,530 visits or 17.14% of the total foreign tourists. Ateng stated that not only foreign tourists, but domestic tourist movements also showed a sharp increase. BPS recorded the number of domestic tourist trips in March 2026 at 126.34 million trips, jumping 42.10% compared to March 2025. Cumulatively, the total domestic tourist trips from January to March 2026 reached 319.51 million trips, up 13.14% compared to the same period the previous year. This surge, according to him, aligns with the increased mobility of the population during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah period, and all modes of transportation experienced an increase in passenger numbers during that period. He conveyed that rail transport recorded the highest number of passengers at 48.14 million people, up 17.76% compared to March 2025. Meanwhile, domestic air transport served 5.62 million passengers, an increase of 32.35%.
