BPS Records Rise in Farmer Terms of Trade to 129.19 in August 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that the national Farmer Terms of Trade (NTP) stood at 129.19 in August 2026.
“The Farmer Terms of Trade, or NTP, in August 2026 was recorded at 129.19, representing a 1.05 per cent increase compared to July 2026,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to Ateng, the increase in NTP occurred because the price index received by farmers (It) rose by 1.14 per cent to 165.66, which was higher than the increase in the price index paid by farmers (Ib) of 0.09 per cent to 128.24.
Commodities that dominantly influenced the increase in the national price index received by farmers included unhusked rice, palm oil, rubber, and broiler chickens.
Meanwhile, commodities affecting the price index paid by farmers included broiler chicken meat, rice, long beans, and kidney beans.
When viewed by sub-sector, horticulture (NTPH) experienced the largest decline in NTP, dropping by 2.84 per cent from 128.11 in July 2026 to 124.47 per cent in August.
This decline was primarily due to the price index received by farmers falling by 2.81 per cent, while the price index paid by farmers increased by 0.03 per cent. Influencing commodities included shallots, tomatoes, and cabbage.
Aside from horticulture, all other sub-sectors experienced increases. The highest increase occurred in the food crop sub-sector (NTPP) by 1.62 per cent, from 116.16 in July to 118.04 in August.
Furthermore, the plantation crop sub-sector (NTPR) rose by 1.53 per cent from 166.23 to 168.77, and the livestock sub-sector (NTPT) rose by 0.96 per cent from 101.35 to 102.33.
Ateng also explained that the fisheries terms of trade (NTPP) recorded an increase of 0.69 per cent from 107.86 in July 2026 to 108.60 in August 2026.
The increase in fisheries terms of trade was primarily supported by a rise in the fishermen’s terms of trade (NTN) by 0.50 per cent (from 108.49 to 109.04) and the fish farmer’s terms of trade (NTPi) by 0.99 per cent (from 106.85 to 107.91).
Commodities that dominantly influenced the increase in the price index received by fishermen included mackerel tuna, mackerel, sea prawns, and anchovies.
Meanwhile, commodities that dominantly influenced the increase in the price index received by fish farmers included seaweed, milkfish, brackish water prawns, and freshwater gourami.
