The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) has reported that several food commodities have contributed to an increase in the Price Development Index (IPH) during the first week of March 2026. These commodities include chicken eggs, broiler chicken meat, beef, shallots, and red chilli.

BPS head Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti noted that the highest IPH increases occurred in Jakarta, West Nusa Tenggara, and West Sulawesi during the period preceding Eid al-Fitr. Jakarta recorded an IPH increase of 3.39 percent. West Nusa Tenggara rose by 2.67 percent. West Sulawesi increased by 1.41 percent.

“Looking at the IPH data, the majority are driven by red chilli, broiler chicken meat, and some chicken eggs,” said Amalia during a Regional Inflation Control Meeting conducted online in Jakarta on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Price increases in West Nusa Tenggara were influenced by red chilli, beef, and shallots. Increases in West Sulawesi were driven by broiler chicken prices, mackerel fish, and red chilli.

BPS also recorded IPH increases across regions in Sumatra. The main contributing commodities included broiler chicken meat and beef.

The Thousand Islands Administrative District recorded the highest IPH increase in Java. Red chilli, broiler chicken meat, and beef were the main contributors to price increases in this region.

Regions outside Sumatra and Java also experienced IPH increases. The main contributing commodities included red chilli, red pepper, and broiler chicken meat. East Lombok District recorded the highest increase in this regional group.

Amalia assessed that the increase in chicken egg prices warrants attention given that it is occurring across many regions. “What requires particular attention is the increase in chicken egg prices, with 210 municipalities and cities currently experiencing IPH increases,” said Amalia.

Monitoring of broiler chicken prices and shallot prices also needs to be strengthened, as the number of regions experiencing price increases continues to grow. Data from the Essential Goods Market Monitoring System shows that national average prices during the first week of March 2026 experienced increases in several commodities.
