BPS records price increases for medium and premium rice

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded an increase in rice prices during the third week of September 2026, affecting both medium and premium varieties.

Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, stated in Jakarta on Monday that several regencies and cities recorded rice price increases of more than 3 per cent.

Nationally, the price of medium rice rose by 0.76 per cent in the third week of September 2026, while premium rice increased by 0.69 per cent.

“Based on regencies and cities, quite many areas recorded changes in their Rice Price Development Index (IPH) of above 3 per cent,” said Ateng.

The national average price for medium rice up to the third week of September 20lar6 was Rp14,644 per kilogram, whereas the maximum retail price (HET) was set at Rp13,500 per kilogram for Zone 1, Rp14,000 for Zone 2, and Rp15,500 for Zone 3.

Meanwhile, the national average price for premium rice was Rp16,495 per kilogram, while the HET was set at Rp14,900 per kilogram for Zone 1, Rp15,400 for Zone 2, and Rp15,800 for Zone 3.

According to Ateng, the highest provincial change in the rice price index was recorded in Highland Papua with an increase of 4.29 per cent. This was followed by North Sulawesi, which recorded a 2.6 per cent increase.

At the regency level, the highest increase occurred in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua, reaching 47.94 per cent.

Significant increases were also seen in Mahakam Ulu Regency at 12 per cent and Minahasa Regency at 10.29 per cent.

Several other regencies recorded rice price increases ranging from 3 per cent to 7.5 per cent. These areas include Semarang Regency, Ende Regency, Tulang Bawang Regency, Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency, Rokan Hulu Regency, Karanganyar Regency, and Seluma Regency.

Ateng noted that these rice price developments require attention, particularly as rice price movements will serve as a component in calculating annual inflation.
