Jayapura (ANTARA) - The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of Papua Province states that the export structure in Papua Province in March 2026 still relies on non-oil and gas commodities, particularly the wood and wood products category (HS44), valued at US$3,151.11 thousand or the equivalent of Rp54.84 billion.

The Head of General Affairs at BPS Papua Province, Emi Puspitarini, in Jayapura on Monday, said that timber commodities remain the largest contributor to Papua’s exports, demonstrating the competitiveness of forestry products in the global market.

“The contribution of non-oil and gas exports to Papua’s total exports reaches 99.98 per cent, while the oil and gas sector is only US$0.55 thousand or still plays a very small role in the region’s foreign trade,” she said.

Emi detailed that the total value of Papua’s exports in March 2026 was recorded at US$3,550.09 thousand.

“This figure experienced a decline of 47.38 per cent compared to February 2026, which reached US$6,747.27 thousand,” she stated.

She explained that in terms of destinations, there are three main countries for exports from Papua, with the highest being Australia at US$2,457.90 thousand or about 69.23 per cent of total exports.

“Then, the main export markets are also sent to New Zealand at US$444.71 thousand and Papua New Guinea at US$387.01 thousand,” she said.

She added that the largest export loading activity in the Papua region is carried out through Jayapura Port with a value of US$387.01 thousand, particularly for shipments to neighbouring countries.

“However, most of Papua’s exports are actually loaded through ports outside the province, namely Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya, which recorded a loading value of US$3,162.18 thousand,” she stated.

This indicates the high dependence on logistics infrastructure outside Papua.

“Cumulatively, the total value of Papua’s exports from January to March 2026 reached US$14,629.63 thousand. This figure fell 7.78 per cent compared to the same period in 2025,” she said.
