BPS records Indonesia's trade surplus at US$4.03 billion for January–May 2026
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that Indonesia’s cumulative trade balance from January to May 2026 posted a surplus of US$4.03 billion, with exports totalling US$115.36 billion and imports reaching US$111.33 billion.
Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday that the cumulative export value increased by 3.02 percent year-on-year, with the largest contributing sector being the processing industry, which grew by 5.38 percent.
Imports during the same period rose by 15.24 percent, primarily driven by a 10.35 percent increase in imports of raw materials and auxiliary goods.
For the month of May, Indonesia’s trade balance recorded a deficit of US$1.61 billion, with exports at US$23.20 billion and imports at US$24.81 billion.
Ateng noted that the export value for May 2026 fell by 5.73 percent year-on-year, while the import value for May increased by 22.16 percent year-on-year.
