The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that Indonesia’s imports reached US$24.81 billion in May 2026, a 22.16% increase year-on-year (yoy) compared to May 2025.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, Ateng Hartono, stated that oil and gas imports during May 2026 amounted to US$4.51 billion, surging 70.78% year-on-year. Meanwhile, non-oil and gas imports reached US$20.30 billion, rising 14.69%.

“The annual imports were driven by non-oil and gas imports, which contributed 12.95%,” Ateng said during the BPS release on Wednesday (1/7/2026).

According to BPS data, imports by usage category for May 2026 all increased on an annual basis. “Consumer goods rose 21.99%, raw materials and auxiliary goods rose 25.17% with a contribution of 17.41%, and capital goods imports rose 12.70%,” he explained.

Cumulatively, BPS recorded that Indonesia’s import value for January-May 2026 reached US$111.33 billion, an increase of 15.24% compared to the same period the previous year. “Cumulative imports were dominated by non-oil and gas imports, which amounted to US$93.88 billion, up 13.16%. Meanwhile, oil and gas imports grew 27.89% to US$17.45 billion,” Ateng concluded.
