BPS Records Garlic Price Increases in 248 Regions

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) has recorded that garlic prices increased in 248 districts and cities, or approximately 68.89 percent of regions in Indonesia, during the fifth week of July 2026. Ateng Hartono, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, stated that garlic prices have continued to show an upward trend since June 2026. “Garlic needs to be a shared concern because in the fifth week of July, the price increased by 3.57 percent. Since June, the price increase has been quite significant,” Ateng said during an online Regional Inflation Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday. Nationally, the average price of garlic in the fifth week of July 2026 reached Rp42,005 per kilogram, a 3.57 percent increase compared to the average price in June 2026 of Rp40,556 per kilogram. This figure has also surpassed the government’s retail sales reference price (HAP) for garlic, which is set at Rp38,000 per kilogram. BPS noted that several regions experienced price spikes significantly above the HAP. North Bolaang Mongondow Regency recorded prices approximately 40 percent above the HAP, followed by North Kolaka Regency at around 30 percent, Pohuwato Regency at around 21 percent, North Gorontalo Regency at around 48 percent, and Deiyai Regency reaching 109.47 percent above the HAP. Additionally, East Bolaang Mongondow Regency and South Buton Regency were also recorded as having garlic prices far above the reference price. The highest national garlic price reached Rp100,000 per kilogram, occurring in Intan Jaya Regency, Puncak Regency, and Pegunungan Bintang Regency. Meanwhile, the lowest price was recorded at Rp23,160 per kilogram. Ateng expressed hope that local governments will continue to monitor price developments and ensure the smooth distribution of garlic so that price increases do not spread further across various regions.
