BPS Records 821,000 Uninhabitable Homes in Jakarta
Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded 821,000 homes in Jakarta as unfit for habitation.
BPS chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti shared the data while accompanying Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait on a visit to a home renovation site in Kampung Ambon, West Jakarta, on Saturday (24 October).
“According to 2026 data, there are 821,840 homes in Jakarta that are unfit for habitation,” Amalia told Maruarar.
West Jakarta had the highest number, at 258,000. The figures for the other areas were 189,000 in East Jakarta, 174,000 in North Jakarta, 134,000 in South Jakarta and 60,000 in Central Jakarta.
Maruarar said the government would renovate 10,300 homes in Jakarta. He said he would work with the Jakarta provincial government to deliver the programme.
“Mr Pram [Pramono Anung] supports the flats programme and so on. For the home renovation programme specifically, Mr Prabowo is providing for 10,300,” he said.
The number of homes unfit for habitation poses a challenge for the government as it seeks to expand public access to safe and healthy housing.
BPS Jakarta reported that in 2025, only 37.71 per cent of households in the capital had access to adequate housing, below the national figure of 68.4 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas has increased the allocation for its Home Renovation Programme in Jakarta to 10,300 units in 2026, from just 158 in 2025. The programme covers the capital’s five administrative cities and the Thousand Islands.
