Surabaya — Indonesia’s Central Statistics Agency (BPS) East Java reported that 20,548 foreign tourists entered the province in January 2026 via Juanda Airport, representing a 17.87 per cent decrease compared to December 2025, which recorded 25,019 arrivals.

Compared to January 2025, foreign tourist arrivals to East Java also declined by 7.10 per cent, or 1,571 visits, with January 2025 recording 22,119 tourist arrivals.

“It is hoped that the number of foreign tourist arrivals to East Java in the coming months can increase,” said Senior Statistician Ike Rahayu Sri of BPS East Java in Surabaya on Monday.

The largest number of foreign tourist arrivals came from China, accounting for 7,068 visits, representing 34.4 per cent of total foreign tourists entering through Juanda Airport. This was followed by Malaysian tourists with 4,345 visits and Singaporean tourists with 1,397 visits.

Based on regional origin, Surabaya was the region with the highest tourism travel figures, recording 2.82 million in January 2026, representing approximately 16.77 per cent of total domestic tourism travel from East Java.

Domestic tourism travel in January 2026 by regional origin declined compared to the previous year, with Probolinggo Regency experiencing a significant decline of 40.23 per cent. Conversely, Madiun city recorded the most significant increase in domestic tourism travel in January 2026 compared to the previous year at 18.86 per cent.
